Noble header forces Gate into Trophy replay

Margate 1 Braintree 1

MARGATE were held to a draw by Braintree in the FA Trophy on Saturday after dominating much of the contest at a blustery Hartsdown Park. Both sets of players struggled in the freezing conditions, but Margate carved out the best chances, with Leon Braithwaite hitting the bar.

They went ahead on 72 minutes when substitute Akpo Sodje headed home Terry McFlynn's corner at the near post. That seemed certain to put Margate into the quarter-finals, but Ryman League Braintree levelled in the 85th minute when Quinton Bradley's free kick was headed home at the near post by Tommy Noble.

The pair are due to replay tomorrow (Tuesday) night at Braintree (kick-off 7.45pm), although the wet weekend weather has already put the game in doubt.
