One man's history of village cricket club

PATRICK CLARKE: somewhat sad the book's finished

AS MEMBERS of Worth Cricket Club, near Deal, embark on another season, players and supporters past and present can delve into the club's history, thanks to a new book produced by secretary Patrick Clarke.

The book, Worth Cricket Club 1921-2002, tells the story of the village club since its formation and was a classic labour of love for Mr Clarke who started playing for the club in the late 1970s.

In his foreword he says: "This book has been on my mind for a long time now, and I am rather sad, in a way, that it is finished."

Mr Clarke added: "When we had our 75th anniversary in 1996, I contacted some of our former players and listening to them talk about the club down the years. I thought it was important to record what they had to say for posterity."

* Copies of the book, priced £10, are available from his home at 75 Peak Drive, Eastry CT13 0D2. He can be contacted on 01304 611224 to order a copy, which, he says, he will deliver personally.
