Osborn quits as Bromley boss

Player-manager Simon Osborn has resigned from Bromley Football Club.

Osborn, who initially signed for the club as a player in September 2006 before taking the management reins midway through last season, stepped down after the Lillywhites’ final league game against Dorchester on Saturday.

The news came only a matter of weeks after Bromley chairman Jerry Dolke announced that he was putting the club up for sale - a decision that obviously cast a doubt over the futures of Osborn and player-coach Bobby Bowry, who has also left.

"Myself and Bobby thought it was the only thing to do," said Osborn. "It’s impossible to begin to make plans for next season when a consortium could come in at any time and scrap everything.

"The club is very much in limbo at the moment and obviously that is not a nice position for managers to be in.

"Basically the situation is that they couldn’t commit to us in any way, shape or form, so there was no real option.

"Look what happened to Steve King at Lewes. He did a fantastic job and then lost his job when a new consortium came in."

Bromley’s disappointing 1-0 home defeat to already relegated Dorchester Town on Saturday meant an 11th place finish for the Lillywhites, even if a heavy victory and helpful results elsewhere might have seen the Hayes Lane side steal an unlikely play-off place.

Osborn added: "I wanted to try and take Bromley to the next level, but financial constraints and Jerry’s decision to sell the club means this will not be possible. I didn’t just want Bromley FC to become an also ran."

Joining Osborn and Bowry out of the Hayes Lane gates will be goalkeeping coach Derek Parnham, while Danny Hockton has been linked with a move to Chelmsford City.
