The annual end of season multi-events championships for Kent qualified athletes produced a great battle for supremacy over two days and ten events in the senior men’s decathlon with victory going to Alex Pope (6499 points) of Blackheath and Bromley by 63 points from Martin Brockman of Medway and Maidstone

Stuart Hitchcock took the under 20 men’s decathlon with 5067 points and Nick Simpson won the under 17 men’s octathlon with 4173 points for Medway and Maidstone with Adam Asher of Ashford AC taking the under 15 boys pentathlon with 2277 points.

Dartford Harriers athletes achieved a clean sweep of all the women’s gold medals with victories for Claire Capon in the senior heptathlon (3429 points), Megan Edwards in the under 20 heptathlon (3766 points), Nadine Terry in the under 17 heptathlon (3851 points) and Bridie Edwards in the under 15 pentathlon (2552 points).

Six new championship records were set as the belated summer finally arrived in time for the Kent Masters Championships at the same venue.

Imeta Barauskiene of Bexley AC broke the W40 high jump best with 1.55m and the triple jump record with 11.11m and Barbara Terry of Blackheath and Bromley set new figures of 23.49m to win the W60 discus.

The benign weather conditions helped the javelin throwers to succeed and further records fell to Terry in the W60 competition (20.42m) and to father and son competitors Colin and Daryl Brand of Blackheath and Bromley in the M70 (38.87m) and M40 (57.11m) events.
