Kent v Hampshire day four

Any hopes of a Kent win in their LV Championship clash with Hampshire were dashed by a three-hour rain break on the fourth and final day.

Umpires Allan Jones and Nigel Llong took the players off in persistent, yet light drizzle at 12.06pm and, after an early lunch, play eventually resumed at 4.10pm but by then there was no chance of a result.

Hampshire lost just one wicket in the morning session when Martin van Jaarsveld had Chris Tremlett (56) caught at mid-wicket by Ryan McLaren to end a seventh wicket stand with Nic Pothas that added 122 in 38 overs.

Tremlett moved to a 117-ball 50 with a huge six over the players’ dressing rooms and then hit a straight six off James Tredwell’s next delivery.

But, in the next over, he pulled hard to mid-wicket where McLaren pocketed a sharp chance at the edge of the St Lawrence square.

At the other end Pothas reached a fluent 82 before the drizzle arrived and he emerged afterwards to reach a 208-ball century and was unbeaten on 105 when the sides shook hands on the draw.

Hampshire and Kent shared 11 points apiece from the game.

Kent return to Canterbury Week action on Sunday when they take on Glamorgan Dragons in a NatWest Pro40 Division 2 clash at St Lawrence from 1.45pm.
