RONNIE JEPSON has admitted he was about to replace defender Ian Cox when he was sent off against Cheltenham on Saturday.

Cox received his second red card in four games in first-half stoppage time after collecting a second yellow for a foul on Kayode Odejayi.

He was also booked for a foul on Scott Brown that led to JJ Melligan scoring direct from a free-kick.

Jepson said: "I was a little disappointed. I was going to put Leon (Johnson) on at half-time because Cox was walking a tight-rope."

The Gills boss also revealed Odejayi was on his summer shopping list.

He added: "He’s (Odejayi) a good player and was one I was interested in. He has a little tug at you and then tries to turn away, and people tug him back."
