Sad end to Gillingham's Cup run

Burnley 3 Gillingham 1

GILLINGHAM dreams of FA Cup glory and the lucrative prize of a place in fifth round were dashed in three minutes of madness at Turf Moor on Saturday.

A tie that hung in the balance suddenly swung in Burnley's favour as Ian Moore and Robbie Blake demoralised Gillingham with goals in the 30th and 33rd minutes.

Moore opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a flying header from Mo Camara's cross.

Blake compounded Gillingham's misery in the 33rd minute when he scored direct from a free kick with goalkeeper Bertrand Bossu sadly at fault.

Gillingham made a bright start to the second half when they took the game to Burnley. But they were deflated when Blake scored his 17th goal of the season in the 64th minute after turning in Ian Moore's cross.

Darius Henderson scored his first goal for Gillingham in the 71st minute when he bundled the ball home from close range after goalkeeper Brian Jensen fumbled a cross from substitute Kevin James.

But it was too little too late to stop Burnley reaching the last 16.
