Maidstone United could not take advantage of being involved in one of just four games in Ryman League Premier Division to take place on Saturday as they were pegged back from 2-0 up at 10-man Leiston to draw 2-2.
Second-placed Margate’s big game against Hendon was postponed, while third-placed Dulwich Hamlet drew 0-0 against Met Police to go joint-second, however Stones could only extend their advantage at the top to five points, with Gate now having a game in hand.
Tonbridge Angels’ trip to Grays and VCD Athletic’s game at Harrow Borough were also postponed.
Herne Bay’s game at home to Folkestone Invicta in Division 1 South was subject to two pitch inspections but eventually was given the go ahead and attracted a crowd of more than 360.
It was the only game of the day involving Kent sides to take place in the division and it was the visitors who took the lead when Jon Pilbeam fired the opener after seven minutes.
Nat Blanks put through his own goal to level the scores shorty before the half-hour and Mark Lovell completed the turnaround to put Bay ahead eight minutes before the break.
In a lively encounter Pilbeam hit the leveller 11 minutes after the turnaround and though former Invicta hero Stuart King came off the bench for Bay, he found his way into the book rather than onto the scoresheet.
Invicta thought they’d won it late on, with the ball in the net, only for the referee to disallow it for a foul on a Bay defender as both teams settled for a point which kept Folkestone fourth but took Bay up to seventh, above Whitstable, and only five points adrift of the play-offs.
Cray Wanderers’ game against Waltham Abbey in Division 1 North was postponed but 15th-placed Thamesmead might wish their home game with rock-bottom Burnham Ramblers had fallen foul of the weather.
Andrea Montovani put the visitors ahead three minutes before the break, and despite Jack Hopkins levelling nine minutes after the turnaround for Mead, Ricky Evans snatched the winner for Burnham with just over 20 minutes remaining.
The goal secured Ramblers just their fourth win of the campaign however they remain 14 points from safety with just 11 games to play.
Two late goals ensured Chatham returned from Wroxham pointless and five points clear of the drop-zone.
Jordan King put the play-off chasers ahead inside 20 minutes but Joe Loft levelled just after the half-hour, and that was how it stayed until seven minutes from time.
First Christy Finch broke Chats resistance and Remy Gordon added another on 87 minutes to seal the points.
