Ipswich 3 Gillingham 4

SUBSTITUTE Mark Saunders scored with the last kick of the game to send Gillingham into wonderland at the end of a stupendous match at Portman Road on Saturday (Tony Hudd writes).

The midfielder picked his spot from Nicky Southall's pass to give the club a second straight league win just as Ipswich looked likely to take a share of the points after fighting back from a 3-1 deficit.

Rod Wallace had given Gillingham a 13th minute which Ian Westlake equalised in the 17th.

Mamady Sidibe restored Gillingham's lead in first half stoppage time with a sweet finish after player-manager Andy Hessenthaler had intercepted Richard Naylor's pass.

Paul Shaw increased Gillingham's lead in the 53rd minute as the visitors looked set for victory.

But Ipswich rallied strongly with goals from Pablo Counago on the hour and Tommy Miller in the 73rd which looked enough to earn the side a share of the points until Saunders made his late and dramatic intervention.

Gillingham's win ended Ipswich's run of six games without defeat that included five straight wins.
