PATRICK AGYEMANG will complete a £350,000 move to Coca-Cola Championship rivals Preston North End on Monday.

Gills chairman Paul Scally defended the sale despite the current injury crisis, calling the sale of the 24-year-old who scored eight times in 33 league appearances since his arrival from MK Dons in January for £150,00 good business.

However, he admitted: "In his short time at the club he showed potential and given a better financial climate we would have preferred to see him stay.

"As a club we remain as ambitious as ever, but if we are to achieve the levels of income we have budgeted for then we will be forced into making decisions we would otherwise not have made."

Gillingham's loss is North End boss Billy Davies' gain and he hopes to have the powerful striker, who has recovered from a hamstring strain back in action for Friday's trip to Cardiff City.

He said: "We have agreed personal terms, but Patrick had to return to London for the birth of his first child. Hopefully everything will be tied up by Monday.

"Patrick has caused us a lot of problems whenever we have played against him because of his wonderful pace and stature. He will gives us that little bit extra added firepower."
