Soccer league's bad boys named and shamed

TOUGH STANCE: league officials ahead of their annual meeting

THE Rochester and District Saturday Football League have named and shamed the six clubs with the worst disciplinary records in the competition.

In his report, to be presented at Friday's annual meeting, secretary Terry Lawrence described misconduct as a matter of extreme concern after 129 players were dismissed and 760 cautioned last season.

By contrast, he singled out former bad boys Medway City for praise after they cleaned up their act to such an extent they finished the season boasting one of the best records.

The worst were Jubilee (Premier Division), AFC Cuxton (Division 1), Rochester Prince of Wales (Division 2), The Ship, Frindsbury (Division 3), The Rising Sun (Division 4), GAV FC (Division 5).

Jubilee’s record was made all the worse as they only completed part of the season.

“At £33 per dismissal and £8 per caution, our clubs have contributed well over £10,000 to the KCFA coffers in the last 12 months,” said Mr Lawrence.

“I asked at last year’s annual meeting if that fact gave our clubs any food for thought. The answer is obviously no because misconduct in season 2003-04 was every bit as bad as that in 2002-03.

“Misconduct figures as bad as these bring you, the clubs, and this league into disrepute and we shall be monitoring misconduct even more closely next season. We shall impose penalties on clubs whose players persistently offend.”
