Star guest at amateur boxing show

FORMER WBC flyweight champion Charlie Magri will be among the guests at the Samuel Montagu open air boxing show at Eynsford, near Swanley, on Saturday (June 1).

The show, which will feature about 25 bouts including one female contest, is being staged at the Castle Hotel. The action starts at 3pm.

There will be fighters from 19 amateur boxing clubs from all over the South East and organiser and coach Michael Gregory is looking forward to the event. He said: “We had a great day last year and it’s shaping up to be even better this time around.

“We’ve got some great matches lined up and some great acts lined up and we’re hoping people come along for some great family entertainment.”

The most keenly anticipated bouts sees a pair of brothers in action. Scott Burrell faces Eddie Cocoran (Trojan) and his brother Dean takes on Eddie’s brother John. The top junior bout of the night sees Justin Gregory take on Mark Bladen (Harrow) and in the ladies’ contest, Kerry Shergold (Paignton) fights Tamsin Mallia (Haileybury) in a featherweight match.

After the boxing, local band Tumbling Dice, who have backed Eric Clapton in the past, will be performing. Tickets are £10 adults and £5 children. Contact Michael Gregory on 07836 369673 for more details.
