Richard Stenhouse is one of those fortunate dinghy sailors who can go to sea in any wind conditions and more or less guarantee to be in the top 10 who lead the fleet to the finishing line.

Stenhouse proved this on Sunday when he convincingly won the four-day Musto Skiff National Championships hosted by Whitstable Yacht Club.

This was the third time the Rutland Water SC helmsman had won the title and the handsome piece of silver which goes with it.

When the 12-race series finished on Sunday afternoon, he was counting five outright wins backed by a fourth, two fifths and two sixth places to put himself 11 points clear of runner-up Ian Trotter, from Derwent SC.
