Stimson in the hunt for Dickson

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson could make a move for Charlton’s wantaway striker Chris Dickson.

The Charlton striker handed in a transfer request yesterday after finding his chances at The Valley limited despite the club’s problems towards the bottom of the Championship.

Dickson finished as top scorer for Gillingham last season with 11 goals after joining Stimson’s side on loan.

Stimson knows finances could be a stumbling block, but with a money-spinning tie against Aston Villa coming up, he could have some funds to spend.

“If he was available to us I would sign him straight away,” said Stimson.

“When he was here he scored goals and did really well. He’s got a lot of room for improvement but the most important thing is that he can score goals and that’s priceless.

“It depends on what kind of fee they want and if the lad wants to drop into Division 2. He’s on my list of strikers.”

Meanwhile Stimson is still in negotiations with first team coach Mark Robson after offering him a permanent contract and is also talking with Tottenham over extending the loan of Andy Barcham until the end of the season.
