WELLING secretary Barrie Hobbins has spoken of his delight after the FA ordered Grays Athletic to pay the Wings £12,000 for Danny Kedwell.

The striker was out of contract at the end of last season but Welling were entitled to a fee because of Kedwell's age and went to tribunal after failing to agree a price with the Essex outfit.

Grays, who had a £10,000 bid turned down last season, were ordered to pay the Wings £6,000 now and a further £6,000 in six months. Welling were also awarded a 33 per cent sell-on clause.

Hobbins said: "We're delighted with the outcome. It's something that I felt we deserved but wasn't sure that we would get.

"I'm happy with the situation - it vindicates our decision to refuse the offers for Danny last season.

"We can't have any complaints, it was a fair hearing and the sell-on clause is generous as well."

Kedwell scored 49 goals in two seasons at Welling after joining from Kent League Herne Bay.
