Wings ruin Margate's festive period

Matthew Panting

Welling 1 Margate 0

AN EARLY goal from Danny Slatter earned Welling a second derby win in Conference South over Margate in five days on Saturday.

The former Chelsea midfielder struck a delightful 25-yard left-foot shot into the top corner after three minutes.

It proved enough to separate the two sides and lifted the Wings above the visitors and into 15th place. But the reverse extended Margate's poor run to nine games without a win.

The visitors went close to equalising early in the second half, twice through Rocky Baptiste who should have done better with a glancing header.
