WELLING remain in the play-off places despite losing to a last minute goal at champions Histon on Saturday.

Skipper Adrian Cambridge scored in the 89th minute to decide a game of few chances and confirm the title for the home side.

The Wings were denied a penalty in the 13th minute when Sam Tucknott was tripped in the box and then Danny Kedwell saw his right-foot shot cleared off the line.

At the other end Histon only had two long-range shots to show for their efforts but they turned the screw in the second half and forced Welling back.

Roscoe Hipperson saw his 50th minute header cleared off the line and Erkan Okay's 20-yard shot was deflected over the bar.

The game seemed set to end in a stalemate until Ellis Green gave possession away cheaply and when Jamie Turner fumbled Okay's shot, Cambridge snapped up the rebound.

Welling are at home to Basingstoke on Tuesday night. Kick-off at Dartford's Princes Park is at 7.45pm.
