A229 Lower Stone Street, Maidstone starting to clear after temporary lane closure

Both lanes of the A229 on Lower Stone Street are now open and earlier delays are starting to clear.

Motorists were queuing in traffic after an unplanned, temporary lane closure was put in place by Kent Highways.

A spokesperson said a large vehicle decided to stop in the lane which forced crews to close the section of road.

The Kent Highways roadwork team said it is now looking into the reasons behind the vehicle stopping.

Those travelling were being advised to allow extra time for their journey, but traffic conditions are now returning to normal.
