Arrest after death of pensioner

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pensioner died in a collision in Maidstone.

Sydney Freeman, 75, from Shepway, Maidstone, died as he and his wife Ivy were walking home in Cumberland Avenue, Maidstone, after visiting friends on Thursday, June 26. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife was taken to hospital and treated for a broken ankle.

The man who has been arrested has been bailed to Maidstone police station pending a decision to prosecute, until September 8.
