Balloon belonging to Tommy Bruce, from Downswood, floats to France

A toddler's birthday balloon has crossed borders and found its way to France.

Tommy Bruce let go of helium balloons from his garden in Downswood, on his birthday to see how far they go.

January marked his second birthday, so the ceremony was performed and his birthday reminder floated skywards with a note attached saying to contact his parents if it was found.

They have now received an email saying it reached Amiens in northern France.

The balloon was found by Vanessa Brood and her boyfriend Valentin Lamont, who emailed Tommy's mother, Laura.

It said: "We found Tommy's balloon a few weeks ago in Bougainville, near Amiens in France. Christian, Valentin’s father, found it in his field.

"We are really happy because it was the first time we found a balloon like this!"

The French duo were keen to find out more about Tommy, asking where he was from and what he liked to do.

Mrs Bruce was thrilled they had got in touch, saying it was "a lovely email".
