Travellers have set up camp at a popular park.

Police received two calls on Friday night from members of the public reporting the arrival of caravans at the recreation ground in Gatland Lane, Maidstone.

The unauthorised encampment is being dealt with by Maidstone Borough Council.

Four caravans have been spotted at the site.

A resident living nearby, who did not want to be named, said: "I thought good heavens, they have appeared again. It's not the first time, they do this quite regularly.

"It happens on the bank holidays because the council isn't in full swing and it takes them longer to get moved on. It's exactly the same as last year."
