An accident has added to delays on one of the busiest roads in Maidstone

Police have re-opened Hermitage Lane in Barming seven hours after it was shut after an accident.

The road that serves both Maidstone Hospital and is a major link to the M20 at Aylesford and to the Aylesford Retail Park was already busy with traffic when the accident occurred at 1.35pm.

It was closed from Barming Station to the retail park at the bottom of Hermitage Lane, at the junction with the A20 in Aylesford, to allow for the accident investigation units to work.

Only one car was involved in the crash, but it somehow managed to over-turn on the carriageway. A man was seriously injured.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to the crash. They are asked to contact the Kent Police serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538, or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference AH/AH/24/17.
