Huge carved Halloween pumpkin at The Hook and Hatchet Inn, Hucking

A village pub has put a gigantic carved pumpkin on their doorstep to show off their Halloween spirit.

The Hook and Hatchet Inn in Church Road, Hucking put the monster on display ahead of the spooky holiday next Wednesday.

The enormous gourd, grown by pub regular Chris Spree, is so heavy it needed to be lifted in to place with a forklift truck.

The expert carving, featuring haunting faces on both sides, was done by Terry Davis.

Landlord Keith Patching said: "The reaction has been fantastic. We're quite remote anyway but certainly during the day when we put it out a lot of people are stopping and saying 'is that a real pupmpkin?' It definitely is.

"Families are stopping to have their photo taken with it."

While the pub boasts on social media that theirs is Kent's largest pumpkin, they may have to settle it officially with farmer Mark Batchelor who grew a 28 stone whopper.

To continue with festivities the pub is hosting a Halloween party tomorrow and is offering the chance for visitors to win prizes by guessing the vegetable's weight.

Also of offer are £1 scare walks for under-sevens from 6.30pm and children aged seven to 12 from 7pm before a children's disco from 4.30pm until 8pm and then for adults from 9pm until late.
