KFC on the wish-list in regeneration

A Colonel – or rather Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame has been suggested as a new resident in Park Wood.

The KFC suggestion might not seem so finger-licking good for those tasked with deciding what to include in the £34 million redevelopment though.

But it was one of many requests submitted in a consultation exercise run by Golding Homes.

Others included a Subway sandwich shop and a skate park.

The social housing firm wants to demolish 234 homes and businesses off Wallis Avenue, and replace the estate with houses and a small shopping outlet.

A spokesman said there is strong support to keep existing businesses at the community parade, including a fish and chip shop, hairdressers and newsagents.

Chris Blundell, development director, said “We are pleased with the response to our regeneration plans.

"We are now looking at the results and will feed these into our plans before they are submitted to Maidstone council for planning permission in the coming months.”
