Overnight road closures planned for resurfacing of A26 Tonbridge Road in Maidstone by Kent County Council

A significant stretch of road will be subject to overnight closures while resurfacing work takes place.

Work on the A26 Tonbridge Road in Maidstone, a major route in and out of the County Town, is set to begin on May 18.

Highways bosses have planned to work to take place in stages, with sections of the carriageway shut to traffic between the hours of 9pm and 5am. The fresh road surface is being put down between Westree Close and St Andrew’s Church.

Laying out the plans, Kent County Council says it hopes by doing the work in one project will prevent smaller bouts of roadworks which could disrupt daytime traffic.

Diversions via alternate routes will be put in place during the closures, and people living within the section of road being closed who need access while works are ongoing are being asked to speak to work crews on site.

As part of the preparation work for the resurfacing drains or manhole covers may be adjusted or replaced. Skid-resistant surfaces on the approach to pedestrian crossing points are also being replaced.

The work is expected to finish by June 12, but dates could change if the repairs are affected by bad weather.
