Man arrested following Maidstone barber shop burglaries

A 31-year-old has been arrested suspected of two break-ins at barber shops.

Police Community Support Officers are credited with the arrest in Maidstone after they used local knowledge to track the suspected burglar down.

The Maidstone Community Safety Unit had been investigating the reported burglaries in Union Street and Bank Street on Sunday and Monday, March 18 and 19 respectively.

Having made enquiries at the scenes and neighbouring properties, PCSOs examined CCTV footage that showed a local man they recognised.

They then visited several places he was known to visit and, at 3.50pm on Tuesday, March 20, made the arrest after he was spotted in Priory Road.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Chief Inspector Mick Gardner said; "Our PCSOs pride themselves on having a good understanding of the communities they serve and they know the majority of offenders who commit crime in the area.

"In this instance, they conducted their own investigation and within two days a man was in custody."
