A 43-YEAR-OLD man has been taken to hospital with facial injuries after being assaulted along a river path in Maidstone.

The assault happened at midday today off Bishops Way, near the mooring post for the Kentish Lady river trips.

A police spokesman said a man had been arrested in connection with the incident. The bridge is currently closed to pedestrians and an area of the river path has been sealed off while officers complete a forensic exam of the scene.

Traffic also mounted up while investigations continued throughout the rush hour.

The police spokesman added that the 43-year-old was taken to East Grinstead Hospital.
