Man burned after out of control bonfire spreads in East Farleigh

A man suffered burns to the face and one hand after an out-of-control bonfire spread to a large pile of wooden pallets, rubbish and a hedge.

Crews were called to a yard in Heath Road, East Farleigh near Maidstone at around 4.15pm yesterday.

Four fire engines attended and crews used foam to stop the fire spreading further.

The one person who was injured fortunately only suffered small burns and was advised to go to hospital to be checked over.

Following the incident, firefighters are urging people to take care when having a bonfire.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Remember to build your bonfire well clear of buildings, garden sheds, fences, hedges and overhanging branches. Keep it to a manageable size and make sure it's evenly built so it collapses inwards as it burns."
