The victim of a house fire at the weekend was a man in his late 50s.

Investigators had struggled to identify the person who died after a blaze broke out on the ground floor of a property in Woodland Close, Penenden Heath, Maidstone on Saturday.

But following a post mortem examination on Monday, they revealed it was a man in his late 50s.

No further details about the man have been released.

Police have also ruled out any suspicious circumstances.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the two-storey property at around 1.25am on Saturday.

Four fire engines were sent – two from Maidstone fire station and two from Larkfield – and crews wore breathing apparatus while tackling the fire, which was put out by 2.20am.

There were no other casualties.
