A man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a car was reported to have gone up in flames.

Police officers were called to St Peter Street in Maidstone at 2.25pm regarding a car on fire in a public car park.

Ambulance, fire and police personnel attended, with the fire extinguished quickly.

A man was treated for burn injuries and has been taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital for further medical attention.

Despite an air ambulance being called, the individual was rushed to the medical centre "as a priority" by a land ambulance.
