Who’d have thought luxury rooms with champagne and hot tubs would fail to win the top prize in a TV search to find the best B&B?
The owner of the hotel in question, Joe Mallett, predicted the outcome before he had even appeared on the series, Four in a Bed.
Mr Mallett, who runs the Who’d a Thought It in Grafty Green, near Maidstone, with partner Alex Baldwin, featured on last week’s episodes of the popular Channel 4 show.
The programme features four B&B owners scoring each other’s businesses before paying what they think their stay was worth.
The Headcorn Road establishment wowed its competitors with its glamorous accommodation, which cost up to £375 per night, but it received the lowest payment with 88% of the total bill paid.
Mr Mallett said: “The expensive places don’t always get what they deserve so I always knew we weren’t going to win.
“It was good fun and I think we came across well. All of our customers thought it was great.”
It’s not the first time the 13-bed countryside inn has been on the small screen. It featured on Channel 5’s The Hotel Inspector in 2011 and then again 2013.
Mr Mallett said: “I love reality TV. It's something I enjoy being involved in."
He said he has a number of ideas in the pipeline for his own television ventures, including a Challenge Anneka-style show.
