A rapist has been jailed for life after attacking a woman in her home, just days after his prison release.

James Donoghue, 42, was living in a Maidstone bail hostel when he carried out the knifepoint attack in the Fant area in July this year.

Donoghue had previously pleaded guilty to a horrific rape and sex attack on the 30-year-old woman, of whom he took indecent pictures of during the ordeal.

Today he was sentenced to life at Maidstone Crown Court.

The judge ordered he must spend at least 10 years behind bars before being considered for parole.

Donoghue, originally from North Kent, had been sent to prison in 2001 for a string of burglaries.
