MAIDSTONE Ladies saved the best to last as they finished a disappointing English Womens Conference East season with a 1-0 win over champions Reading on Saturday.

The Stones already knew their fate, while their opponents were hoping to maintain their season long unbeaten record.

Maidstone fielding their only 11 fit players scored the only goal of the game, through Rachael Thompson, while goalkeeper Jenny Vincent was player-of-the-match.

Skipper Lizzie Daniels said: "Every team player and coach has their day and this was ours.

Maidstone's Men lost 2-1 at home to Oxford Hawks. Kevin Johnson scored their only goal.
