Suspected bomb in Snodland

A suspected bomb has been discovered at allotments in Snodland.

The suspicious lump of metal was found by a couple at the site, which is adjacent to Saltings Road, at about 11am yesterday (Sunday). It is thought to have been there for some time.

The Kent Messenger's Snodland correspondent, Anne Maloney, was one of the first on scene.

She said: "The couple knocked on my door, looking very pale, and said they thought they had discovered a bomb.

"We called the police straight away."

Officers cordoned off the area for about two hours while a bomb disposal team assessed the situation.

The bomb squad took away the suspected explosive for further examination.
