Switch-on preparations are go

Maidstone's Jubilee Square, unveiled in June, will play a key role in the town’s Christmas lights switch-on.

Colourful displays and strings of bulbs will light up the streets, as the switch-on takes place on Thursday, November 22.

The annual switch-on will be staged in Jubilee Square, in the High Street, at 5.30pm, before the processions head through Week Street and along Earl Street to Fremlin Walk.

The shopping centre's lights will be turned on at 6pm.

Final details of the event, organised by the council, Town Centre Management and the town’s shopping centres, are yet to be revealed.

In previous years the celebrations have included music performances, refreshments and appearances from the stars of the Hazlitt Theatre’s pantomime, which this year is Cinderella.
