Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow is wary of a backlash from Saturday’s Blue Square Bet South opponents Eastbourne Borough after they sacked long-serving manager Garry Wilson this week.

The Scot was dismissed after 13 years in charge at the Sussex club and have appointed experienced defender Ben Austin as caretaker player-manager.

Warrilow said: "It is a shame because Garry has done a fantastic job there and one blip has cost him but we all know it’s a results business.

"They will want to do well for the new man in charge but it’s all about what we do."

The game is Tonbridge’s first game for a fortnight, following the midweek postponement at Staines, and they face another free day the following weekend.

Tonbridge players and supporters all had a wasted journey around the M25 to Wheatsheaf Park on Tuesday night, with the referee calling the game off an hour before it had been due to start.

Warrilow said: "It’s been a stop-start month for us so far, when I wanted our new players to get some games."

Six first-team players, including new boys Chris Piper and Joe Benjamin, had a run-out in the reserves’ 2-2 Suburban League draw against Sutton last Saturday.

Midfielder Robbie Kember misses the Eastbourne game due to suspension.
