How Leo Donnellan can help Maidstone United after joining up with brother Shaun

Leo Donnellan will do whatever he can to help Maidstone after joining brother Shaun at the Gallagher.

The midfielder agreed non-contract terms after a spell training with the club, making his debut in the FA Trophy at Stockport.

He travelled with the squad to Solihull and found himself on the bench after Aron Davies failed a fitness test.

A late substitute appearance followed in the 5-0 loss as Maidstone suffered a sixth defeat in seven games.

Donnellan said: "You’ve always got to stay prepared and be ready because you never know what’s going to happen.

"Whenever the gaffer needs me, whenever I can fill in and do a job, I’ll give it my best shot.

"That’s all anyone can do, just work hard and give it your all and come off the pitch saying you couldn’t give any more.

"Whatever will happen will happen, I’ve just got to keep my head down and keep working hard. I'm not thinking past this season.

"If I get something permanent, great, and if not, it’s just how football goes.

"It’s all about the team, to try and kickstart some sort of run."

Donnellan's brother, Shaun, was one of John Still's first signings at Maidstone having worked with the defender at Dagenham.

He's happy to be at the same club as his older sibling.

He said: "Shaun obviously knows John well, he played under him at Dagenham and they have a good relationship.

"He said the club’s good, the set-up’s good, it’s just a lack of results really, which is the most important thing in football.

"He’s the big brother and we’ve got a little one who plays as well, so it’s a footballing family.

"He’s the defender, I’m the midfielder, but it’s nice to come and watch him play, even if it’s just from the bench.

"It’s nice to have your brother around, someone who’s got your back and vice-versa.

"It would be better to watch him play and the team win but we have to find that win from somewhere.

"Once you get one under your belt, next thing you know you get another one and then you’re closing the gap on the teams above.

"Once everyone’s negative it’s a toxic environment to work in and that’s when you’re going to struggle. You’ve got to try and keep positive."
