LLOYD HUME admitted he was surprised he and Alan Walker had been named Ryman 1 South Managers of the Month for January.

The Maidstone United duo were given the award after their side took 15 out of a possible 18 points.

The one blemish on the record was a 3-1 loss at Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday, ending an 11-game unbeaten run.

However, Hume said: "Our recent performances have not been up to standard. I think that our defeat at Tooting had been coming for some time as we hadn’t deserved to win all of the previous three or four games.

"If anything, we deserved to win it in December when we were playing better."
