Ebbsfleet took the derby spoils in front of a record Gallagher Stadium crowd on Tuesday night.
Jordan Parkes scored late in each half to sink Maidstone and earn the Fleet their second successive win at the start of the Vanarama National League South season.
There were 2,363 packed into the ground and it was the 250 travelling supporters from north Kent who went away celebrating.
Steve Watt was passed fit to captain the home side, for whom James Rogers replaced Alex Brown in midfield in the only change from Saturday's 2-0 win at Sutton.
Fleet boss Daryl McMahon named the same XI which started the opening day win over Basingstoke, while Stuart Lewis was fit enough for a place on the bench, Matt Johnson the man to drop out of the squad.
The teams walked out to a terrific reception but the sell-out crowd had to wait a while for the game to catch light. Ebbsfleet saw plenty of the ball early on and knocked it around nicely but they found no gaps in a well-drilled Stones backline.
The first chance of the night came from a set-piece, Watt clipping Parkes' heels just outside the box and Parkes curling the free-kick narrowly over.
Maidstone then came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock - from another dead ball situation. Bobby-Joe Taylor curled in a corner from the right and centre-half Manny Parry rose well to power a header towards the far corner but Matt Godden was perfectly positioned to clear his effort off the line.
Matt Fish had a shot charged down from 25 yards before the game, which had so far been played in a good spirit, threatened to boil over.
A flashpoint in the Ebbsfleet six-yard box prompted players from both teams to pile in before referee Justin Amey could calm things down. He eventually booked rival skippers Watt and Tom Bonner for their involvement in the melee.
Kedwell showed a great touch to kill Brandon Hall's high kick up the field, turning and shooting in one movement. His effort was on target but Stones keeper Lee Worgan was right behind it.
However, with five minutes left in the first half, Ebbsfleet hit the front.
Kedwell dug out a deep cross from wide on the right and although Worgan pulled off an outstanding save to keep out Godden's header at the far post, Parkes was on hand to rifle the rebound into the roof of the net.
Maidstone were stung by the blow but they started the second half like a steam train.
The visitors failed to deal with another corner and Joe Healy's shot was creeping inside the far post until Hall dived low to his left to his left and pushed the ball round the post.
Hall then had to be alert when Stones right-back Callum Driver's looping cross threatened to drop under his crossbar, the goalkeeper saving with his fingertips and conceding a corner.
But Maidstone's exuberance was meeting a wall of red resistance as the Fleet dropped deeper into defence and stood firm.
Jay Saunders sent on Brown, Jack Paxman and Alex Akrofi in an attempt to mix things up but Ebbsfleet almost doubled their lead when Worgan came for Parkes' left-wing free-kick and missed the ball completely. Kedwell probably didn't expect the ball to reach him at the far post but his header, which flew wide of the open goal, certainly represented a missed opportunity.
But the celebrations really started in the away end, nine minutes from time, when Kissock got the wrong side of Parry and squared for Parkes to make the points safe.
Jay May headed against the post with two minutes left before Taylor and Brown had shots charged down at the death as the Fleet kept their concentration right to the end.
