Football League clubs won't loan players to Maidstone United because of their 3G pitch

Maidstone's 3G pitch at the Gallagher Stadium has caused problems in the loan market.

Manager Jay Saunders has made enquiries but Football League clubs aren't keen.

Saunders said: "We've looked at the loan market but, believe it or not, some league clubs won’t allow their players to go out to a 3G pitch.

"It's silly because they’ll come and play us in a pre-season friendly and then won’t let their players out but that’s just preference from the manager. It's strange."

Saunders has moved away from loan targets and continues to chase two permanent signings.

He was given permission to talk to the pair - both National League players - before Christmas.

Saunders added: "The only thing with the loan market is a lot of pro clubs want to give you their young players and I don’t think that’s really what we need.

"We need lads with experience in the position we’re in.

"I could go and get three or four lads from Charlton, Brighton, whoever, but they’ve got to be the right ones otherwise they’re coming in and they’re not going to help us.

"We’re a young side as it is and putting more young lads in, I don’t think it would help us."
