Maidstone United goalkeeper Ross Worner recalled by Sutton

On-loan Maidstone United goalkeeper Ross Worner has been recalled by Sutton.

Worner, 29, was due to stay for the rest of the season but the U’s need him back after first-choice Jamie Butler was injured in training.

It’s the second time in a matter of weeks Maidstone have seen a loanee keeper recalled, with Grant Smith unexpectedly returning to Lincoln last month.

Worner made a series of excellent saves during his five-match spell, including a penalty as Maidstone won 1-0 at Boreham Wood last weekend.

Joint caretaker boss Tristan Lewis told the club website: "We are gutted to lose Ross who has been absolutely superb on and off the pitch.

“All we can do is roll with the punches, stay together and prepare as well as we can for this weekend’s game.”

Worner's replacement is Ethan Ross, who has joined on loan from League 2 Colchester for a month.

The 21-year-old is set to make his debut at Hartlepool tomorrow.
