Andrew Sam gave Welling the lead but his side were well beaten in the end

MAIDSTONE United booked their place in the semi finals of the Kent Senior Cup after a thrilling 4-2 win over Welling United on Tuesday night.

Both sides featured understrength sides and the Stones fell behind to a 17th-minute strike from Andrew Sam.

After a flurry of corners and a surge into the box from player-manager Lloyd Hume, the Stones equalised when Simon Austin's deflected shot curled in.

Just 44 seconds into the second half, Welling regained the lead with a goal by Rishi Nankani. Welling continued to attack, but the visitors grew in confidence and equalised when Peter Overton set up Nick Hegley for a drive from outside the box.

The Stones took the lead three minutes later when Tiesse slotted the ball home from Hegley’s pass and more pressure led to Hegley adding the fourth after a pass from Aaron Shade.
