Stones Trophy run ended by Canvey

Maidstone 0 Canvey Island 1

AN ABJECT display by Maidstone United saw them bow out of the FA Trophy against a Canvey Island side reduced to 10 men on Saturday.

A performance of McClaren-esque ineptitude from both sides produced a goalless first half.

But the scales should have been tipped in Maidstone's favour when Canvey's Colin Wall was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 50th minute.

Despite the numerical advanage, the Stones failed to create any serious chances and they were shocked by an 83rd minute diving header by Danny Curran.

If anything the Essex side looked more likely to score again and when Nick Hegley shot weakly at the Canvey keeper in the 93rd minute, Maidstone's chances were over.
