Alan Walker has thanked Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish for doing Maidstone United a “big favour” by agreeing to Peter Hawkins’ move on a month’s loan.

The 30-year-old defender has fallen out of favour at Stonebridge Road and Walker revealed he had been trying to do the deal for a fortnight, before it finally went through last Friday.

Hawkins played the full 90 minutes in Stones’ 2-2 draw at Tonbridge the following day.

Joint-boss Walker said: “Liam wanted to wait until he had got someone else in but it all worked out in the end.

“We are delighted to get Peter and pleased he has come down to help us out.

“He is just here for a month at the moment but his contract is up at the end of the season, so is probably in the shop window, although time will tell on that."

Hawkins joined Fleet from Rushden in March 2006 and has made nearly 100 appearances, having started his career at Wimbledon, before moving to York.

His arrival compensates for the loss of Ian Cox. The former Gillingham centre-half has started a new job and weekend duties have put a question mark against his availability.

Jay Saunders needs a scan on a knee injury and his fitness will be checked before Saturday's home game with Harrow Borough in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Ben Lewis is available after a one-match ban. He would have returned at Harlow on Tuesday but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The club will hold a minute’s silence, before the start of the game, following the deaths of former chairman Jim Thompson and former kit-man Charlie Wagstaff.
