A Mercedes and an Audi were two cars stolen from driveways sparking a police investigation.

Detectives are reminding car owners to keep their keys secure overnight following thefts in East Malling and Aylesford on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Between 10pm and 10.30pm on Tuesday, a Mercedes E-Class was stolen following a break-in at a house off Bondfield Road, East Malling.

The keys were taken from inside the house and the car was later recovered in London.

An Audi Quattro was also stolen from The Avenue, Aylesford, between 10pm on Tuesday and 6am the following morning.

Thieves took keys from inside the owner’s house to drive the vehicle from a private driveway.

Sergeant Jon Turtle said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw anybody acting suspiciously in either area or who has information that could help our investigation.

"We are also urging people to protect their property by making sure keys, cash and expensive items are not visible from outside their homes.

"I would particularly advise householders to double-lock uPVC doors and windows to deter opportunist thieves."

Residents can take further precautions by using timer switches on lights and radios to make it look as though someone is home, keeping garden gates locked and ensuring garden boundaries are secure.

Anyone with information about the vehicle thefts is asked to phone Sgt Jon Turtle on 01622 604100 quoting crime reference number 46/57225/19 for the Aylesford burglary or 46/57417/19 in relation to the East Malling break-in.
