The 100-acre site - between Christmas Lane, Sharnal Street and Britannia Road - would include one- to four-bedroom homes, built in three phases.

The plans also include play areas, allotments and cycle paths, as well as 1,000 square metres of community and retail space set around a new village square.

The developer also says it will provide funding for a new two-form entry primary school.

A planning application validated by Medway Council last week includes details for the first phase of the development, which would include 278 homes, a quarter of which would be affordable.

A report submitted to the council describes the development as "an attractive and sustainable development that will deliver an integrated and well-designed expansion to the existing settlement".

It adds how it expects to be able to deliver 65 homes a year if granted permission.

The council is due to make a decision on the plans by Wednesday, July 19.

The council's Hoo Development Framework - which was published and consulted on last summer - included a blueprint for the expansion of High Halstow.

The framework included plans for new amenities, a primary school and a bus route and footpaths connecting the village with Hoo St Werburgh, which is earmarked to become a "sustainable rural town".

The authority is also devising how it will spend £170 million from the government's Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) to support the construction of 10,600 homes on the Hoo Peninsula over the next 30 years.

Last month, the council announced it had paused plans to build a new railway station at Sharnal Street, connecting the Peninsula to Gravesend.
