Amazing story of pregnancy boom at Gillingham hockey club

MEET mums united ... the amazing hockey team where almost every single player has fallen pregnant in the past year.

An astonishing 10 out of the 11 regulars of Gillingham Anchorians ladies’ hockey team have fallen pregnant in the past 12 months.

The fertile females have had to take an early bath and give hockey the push while they prepare for motherhood.

Eight out of the 10 have already given birth while two others are due in the next few months.

Gemma Smith, treasurer at the club, said it’s been hard to find players to fill in for the pregnant mums.

“We’ve struggled through each week trying to find players and we’ve managed to do that so far," she said.

"The baby boom has obviously caused problems for our captains but we still hope to field three ladies sides this year.

"We’re not sure if the club lager is responsible but many of the other lady players have switched to bottled beer to be on the safe side!

"We almost have a full squad for the future now with all the babies knocking around on match days."

The club is now appealing for any budding hockey players to get in touch and to join the team.

Mrs Smith added: "We’re constantly on the lookout for new players but with all these pregnancies we more desperate than ever!"
