A woman who died after suffering head injuries was reportedly seen "walking in and out of traffic" in the moments before.

Witnesses are being called for in an investigation over Lisa Lancaster's death.

The 44-year-old died in hospital after an incident on December 13 in Balmoral Road, Gillingham.

It is not known exactly what caused Ms Lancaster's head injuries but it is believed she suffered a fall.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious and on behalf of the coroner, officers are investigating the circumstances leading up to her death.

In particular, they are appealing for the driver of a silver Ford car to come forward who was in Balmoral Road around midday on the Saturday and who may have information.

A police spokeswoman said: "During the course of the investigation, enquiries have led officers to believe Ms Lancaster was in the company of another woman at the time.

"CCTV appears to show the pair walking in and out of traffic before Ms Lancaster fell and sustained her injury."

However the cameras failed to clearly pick up the registration plate of the Ford.

DS Adam Marshall added: "It is our duty to investigate this non-suspicious death on behalf of the coroner and to ensure we have a full picture of the moments before Ms Lancaster sustained her injury.

"I would appeal for anybody with information and particularly the driver of this vehicle to contact me on 01634 884028."

At the time police cordoned off part of the area which was busy with Christmas shoppers and arrested a 44-year-old woman on suspicion of assault.

She was later released without charge.

Floral tributes were left at the scene. One included the message: "RIP. Lisa. A great lady taken too soon. Sweet dreams."
