Arson attacks keep fire crews busy overnight

Firefighters were called to a spate of fires across Medway over night.

Crews were first called to Allied Carpets on Gillingham Business Park at 8.40pm Thursday where a skip containing old carpets and other flooring was alight.

It took them an hour to bring the flames under control.

Crews were then called to Marlborough Road, Gillingham, just after midnight where a stolen car had been set on fire.

At 1.50am firefighters from Medway and Maidstone were called to Harp Farm Road close to Blue Bell Hill where several scrap cars and a porter cabin were ablaze. Nobody was injured. Crews left the scene at 2.24am this morning.

Strood firefighters were also called to St Margaret's Street, Rochester, at 2am Friday where a Ford Escort had been deliberately set on fire. Firefighters spent an hour at the scene.
