Police searching for man who attempted to rape a woman on corner of Arden Street and Jeffery Street in Gillingham

Kent Police is no longer investigating after an attempted rape was revealed to be “not as first reported”.

The alleged incident was believed to have taken place near Jeffery Street, at the corner of Arden Street, in Gillingham between 1am and 2am on October 13.

Speaking at the time, senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Kath Way of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: “Officers are in the area making further enquiries surrounding this incident.

“We understand that this type of report can cause alarm to residents, but we want to reassure those living in the area that we are working as efficiently as we can to gather all the details and to identify and apprehend the offender.”

But, after initial inquiries, Kent Police has revealed no further investigation is required.

A spokeswoman for Kent Police said: The incident was not as first reported and as such no further investigation is required.”
